Taos Ski Valley is a village and alpine ski resort in Taos County, New Mexico, United States. Located 2200 feet above the town of Taos, the alpine environment of Taos Ski Valley offers a cool escape from the desert heat in the summer and perfect conditions for powder skiing in the winter. The population was 69 at the 2010 census. Until March 19, 2008, it was one of four ski resorts in America to prohibit snowboarding; officials announced the change several months in advance.
The village was originally settled by a group of hearty and adventurous miners in the 1800’s, but in 1955 Ernie and Rhoda Blake founded the area as a ski mountain in 1955. The village was incorporated in 1996.
The ski area, Taos Ski Valley, Inc., was founded by Rhoda and Ernie Blake, and is still managed by the Blake family. It has a one to one ratio of expert to beginner/intermediate terrain, and has the highest rated ski school in North America.

Do you want to learn how to skateboard?

Be taught all of the fundamentals of skateboarding fast in a one-week camp. We will teach you the basics of skateboarding such as how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. No matter, of where you are at.. you can benefit from personalized instruction to meet your skill level.

Skateboarding is a pastime activity, a work of art, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been molded and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2002 report by American Sports Data found there are 18.5 million skateboarders in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled had used a board in the previous year were under the age of 18, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have since doubled. In the ensuing years the skate parks tripled making it more accessible as privately owned parks and indoor parks are becoming a reality.

The biggest change has been the developed generation that skateboarded in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the world wide mainstream of competitive sports and now sees it as a participation sport or art for their children as led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

How you can start skateboard lessons?

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Taos Ski Valley skate park.
