Monongah is a town in Marion County, West Virginia along the West Fork River. The population was 939 at the 2000 census. Monongah was incorporated in 1891 by Circuit Court. Its name is abbreviated from Monongahela, the river formed by the confluence of the West Fork and Tygart Valley Rivers a few miles north of the town.
During the operation of the original Consolidated Coal Company mine, some of the town’s amenities consisted of a hotel and a station for a cable car line that linked several nearby towns.
The town suffered the Monongah Mining Disaster on December 6, 1907, described as “the worst mining disaster in American History” in which 362 miners died. Several publications document the disaster, including the Italian book, “MONONGAH, la Marcinelle americana.” Davitt McAteer, Clinton Administration mine safety administrator, authored the book, “Monongah: The Tragic Story of the 1907 Monongah Mine Disaster.”
Recently, a memorial for the miners was built in the center of the town….

Skateboarding is a pastime activity, a work of art, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been shaped and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the ages. A 2023 report by American Sports Data found there were 18.5 million skaters in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled had used a skateboard in the last year were under the age of 18, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have have doubled since the time of the study. In the following years the skate parks have more than tripled making it more accessible as privately owned parks and indoor parks are coming into the picture.

The largest change has been the developed generation that skateboarded in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the worldwide mainstream of competitive sports and sees it as a participation activity for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Monongah skate park.
