Leakey (pronounced Lay-key) is a city in and the county seat of Real County, Texas, United States. The population was 387 at the 2000 census. A U.S. Census Bureau estimate of July 1, 2008, placed the population at 359.
The city is named for John H. Leakey (1824-1900), a pioneer former Tennessee.
Leakey depends heavily on tourism because of the existence of the nearby Frio River and Garner State Park. The Alto Frio Baptist Encampment is located to the southeast of the community.
Leakey is located at 29°43′31″N 99°45′41″W / 29.725243°N 99.761463°W / 29.725243; -99.761463 (29.725243, -99.761463). It is situated at the intersection of U.S. Highway 83, and Farm Roads 336, 337, and 1120 in southeastern Real County, approximately 35 miles north of Uvalde and 90 miles northwest of San Antonio.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km), all of it land.

Do you want to learn how to skateboard?

Discover all of the basics of skateboarding fast in a one-week camp. We will show you the basics of skateboarding like how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. No matter, of where you are at.. you can benefit from customized instruction to meet your skill level.

Skateboarding is a recreational activity, a work of art, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been designed and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2023 report by American Sports Data found there are 18.5 million skate boarders in the world. 85 percent of skateboarders polled who had used a board in the previous year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have doubled since then. In the coming years the skate parks tripled making it more accessible as publicly and privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are becoming a reality.

The largest change has been the generation that skateboarded in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the worldwide mainstream of competitive sports and sees it as a participation sport for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

How to Start:

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Leakey skate park.
