A lackey or lacquey is a term for a uniformed manservant, in its original meaning (attested 1529, according to the Oxford English Dictionary).
The modern connotation of “servile follower” appeared later, in 1588 (OED).
There are several theories about the origins of the word. By one theory, it is derived from Medieval French laquais, “foot soldier, footman, servant”, ultimately from Turkish ulak, literally “a messenger”. In Gaelic, it is a surname related to the word for stone, leac → lackey. Lackey can also mean runner, worker, one-upper.
Lackey is typically used as a derogatory term for a servant with little or no self-respect, who belittles themselves in order to gain advantage. Such advantage is often assumed to be slight, temporary and often illusory. For common verb usage see Toady and Henchman.

A 2023 survey and study by American Sports Data found that there are 18.5 million skateboarders in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled who had used a board in the last year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have since doubled. In the following years the physical locations of skate parks have more than tripled making it more accessible as publicly and privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are coming into the picture.

The biggest change has been the generation that skateboarded in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the world wide mainstream of competitive sports and now sees it as a participation sport for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Lackey skate park.
