Kerby is an unincorporated community in Josephine County, Oregon, United States, north of Cave Junction on U.S. Route 199, Zip code 97531. Although the current population of the Kerby area reported by the US Census is 400, it is often listed in tourist guides as a ghost town, because of the number of historic buildings left from its days as a gold-mining town. Kerby came into existence between 1854 and 1857.
Kerby was named for James Kerby (or Kerbey, as he sometimes spelled his name). The community was founded during the heyday of Josephine County gold mining and went through numerous name changes (and various spellings) in its early years. When Josephine County was established on January 22, 1856, a new county seat was to be chosen in the next county election. The original county seat was a place called “Sailor Diggings” (which was eventually renamed Waldo). One of the polling places listed was called “Kirbey’s Ranch”. A 2002 report by American Sports Data found that there were 18.5 million skateboarders in the world. 85 percent of skateboarders polled who had used a board in the previous year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have have doubled since the time of the study. In the coming years the actual locations of skate parks tripled making it more accessible as privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are coming into the picture.

The largest change has been the generation that skateboarded in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the worldwide mainstream of competitive sports and sees it as a participation sport or art for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

We will teach you the basics of skateboarding like how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. How to Start:

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Kerby skate park.
