Ivor is an incorporated town in Southampton County, Virginia, United States. The population was 320 at the 2000 census.
Popular legend has it that William Mahone (1826–1895), builder of the Norfolk and Petersburg Railroad (now Norfolk Southern), and his cultured wife, Otelia Butler Mahone (1837–1911), who had been raised in Smithfield, traveled along the newly completed Norfolk and Petersburg Railroad naming stations. Otelia was reading Ivanhoe a book written by Sir Walter Scott. From his historical Scottish novels, Otelia chose the place names of Windsor, Waverly and Wakefield.
Otelia Mahone is said to have tapped the Scottish Clan “McIvor” for the name of Ivor. Later, when they could not agree, it is said that they became even more creative, and invented a new word in honor of their “dispute”, which is how the tiny community of Disputanta was named. Do you want to learn skateboarding?

Learn all of the basic principles of skateboarding quickly in a one-week camp. We will show you the principles of skateboarding such as how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. Irrespective, of where you are at.. you can benefit from personalized instruction to meet your skill level.

Skateboarding is a pastime activity, an art form, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been shaped and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data uncovered that there are 18.5 million skaters in the world. 85 percent of skateboarders polled had used a board in the last year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have doubled since then. In the following years the locations of skate parks have more than tripled making skateboarding more accessible as privately owned parks and indoor parks are becoming a reality.

The largest change has been the generation that skated in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the worldwide mainstream of competitive sports and now sees it as a participation activity for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
