East Machias is a town in Washington County, Maine, United States on the East Machias River. As of the 2000 census, the town population was 1,298.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 40.0 square miles (104 km), of which, 35.2 square miles (91 km) of it is land and 4.8 square miles (12 km) of it (12.00%) is water.
As of the census of 2000, there were 1,298 people, 540 households, and 370 families residing in the town. The population density was 36.9 people per square mile (14.2/km²). There were 776 housing units at an average density of 22.0 per square mile (8.5/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 98.84% White, 0.31% Native American, 0.08% Asian, and 0.77% from two or more races.
