A 2002 report by American Sports Data uncovered that there were 18.5 million skate boarders in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled who had used a board in the last year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have have doubled since the time of the study. In the ensuing years the skate parks tripled making skateboarding more accessible as publicly and privately owned parks and indoor parks are becoming a reality.
