The 14th Street Park, located in Long Beach, California, recently unveiled a brand-new skatepark on January 17th, providing the youth of the community with an 8,000 sq. ft. facility to pursue their passions and find solace in a challenging environment. The skatepark, built in 2010, is a hybrid-style facility featuring TrueRide ramps and pre-cast Spohncrete features, expanding upon the site's footprint and catering to skateboarders.
Named after Mike Green, a promising skater whose life was tragically cut short by gang violence, the skatepark is a tribute to his memory. The park is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm and is free to use, promoting accessibility for the community.
The facility is divided into three sections, offering diverse skating experiences. It includes a Skatelite halfpipe, a street section with concrete banks and prefab elements, and a mellower end section with a mix of concrete and prefab elements.
For safety, full pads are required to skate in the park. Despite the challenging circumstances of the community, the skatepark stands as a positive outlet for the youth, providing them with a dedicated space to express themselves through skateboarding.
