The Dalles - Thompson Park Skate Park
The Dalles was very awesome because we were finally able to kick back in one spot for the night and not have to worry about getting up first thing in the morning packing up our and getting on the road. This was a Kingdom/Spin Records Demo the that was set up by this really awesome chick and her name was Anita. Dave Duncan had just built this thing a week earlier and it was a memorial for a kid named Benjamin Rockwell. It was set up really nice quarter pipes, on either end with big platforms and a box in the center with a flat bar, and other grindable boxes. The demo was a success and then we had a small skate contest which Kyle won a dude that helped build the Hood River park which we went on to the next day. We gave this crazy happy kid Jeremy 3rd because of his old school style like bomb drop of the platform, 180 ollie off the platform, blunt to fakie with a backside grab and of course his pink “I like Oregon” shirt and red Hendrix headband didn’t hurt either. The enjoyable part was the rollerblade contest we had to score because we don’t know any of the skateboard tricks. I think we made up a small amount for the small fellows like the one footed manual foot grab and the 360 spinner and the Royoule Roast Beef Cheese Plant for when we had no clue what was up. This community is down for skaters and when we go back next year, hopefully we will see a couple of ramps added. By the way, this was the first wood course we skated in days because everything is cement out there.
