Glacier National Park has announced its reservation system for 2023. This is the third year the Crown of the Continent has implemented this type of system. Glacier has seen a steady increase in visitation over the past 10 to 15 years. According to Glacier representatives, there are more people interested in enjoying the park than there is capacity for, so the reservation system has been enacted to protect resources and to continue to provide a high-quality visitor experience.

The 2023 plan includes all entrances to Glacier. There’s a lot of information, dates, and times to remember. We’re doing our best to break it down for you. What to know:

WEST SIDE
West Glacier Entrance:
o Vehicle reservations needed May 26th- September 10th
o Can get in after 3 p.m. without a reservation
o Road construction taking plan on Going-to-the-Sun Road near Lake McDonald
o Reservation good for three consecutive days
North Fork:
o Vehicle reservation needed at Polebridge Ranger Station May 26th- September 10th
o Can get in before 6 a.m. and after 3 p.m. without reservation
o Reservation good for one day

EAST SIDE
St. Mary Entrance:
o Vehicle reservation needed July 1st – September 10th
o Can get in before 6 a.m. and after 3 p.m. without a reservation
o Reservation good for three consecutive days
Two Medicine and Many Glacier:
o Vehicle reservation needed July 1st – September 10th
o Can get in before 6 a.m. and after 3 p.m. without a reservation
o Reservation good for one day

Keep in mind you still need a park pass, as well as a vehicle reservation. Vehicle reservations can be made ONLY at www.recreation.gov. Reservations will be available in a rolling block schedule OR 24 hours in advance.

BLOCK SCHEDULE:
• On February 1st reservations will open for May 26th – June 30th
• On March 1st reservation will open for month of July
• On April 1st reservations will open for month of August
• On May 1st reservations will be for September 1st - 10th

24 HOUR RESERVATIONS:
• Starting on May 25th, the 24-hour advance reservations will open for the following day
• Reservations can be made at www.recreation.gov starting at 8 a.m. the day before you plan to go to the park
• Limited number available, so get on the website early for a chance to make a reservation

Visitors will need a Vehicle Reservation if they are visiting Going-to-the-Sun Road Corridor or the North Fork area between May 27 – September 11, 2022. This video will walk you through the process of getting a vehicle reservation ticket on rec.gov.

Visitors may also make a reservation through the Recreation.gov call center. Contacting the call center does not provide an advantage towards securing a reservation but provides an alternative for those who don’t have access to the internet or are not as familiar with technology. Call centers are open every day from 8 am to 10 pm MST and the reservation fee remains $2. The following lines are available for callers:

Description of the map: The map depicts Glacier National Park’s Vehicle Reservation Areas along the Going-to-the-Sun-Road Corridor and the North Fork area of the park.
Near the center of the map, Going-to-The-Sun Road bisects the park, connecting the west side of the park with the east side. There are two entry points on the west side of the park that are called out with brown boxes: the Camas Entrance Station and the West Entrance Station. On the east side of the park the Rising Sun Checkpoint (approximately 5 miles east of the St. Mary Entrance) is also called out with the same brown box. The portion of the Going-to-the Sun Road Corridor within the three entry points is shaded in the same color as the brown boxes, depicting the Going-to-the-Sun Road Corridor Vehicle Reservation Area.

Foxtrot Adventures explores the more than 60 miles of trails and 38 parks at Lake Metroparks properties located throughout Lake County, Ohio.

Audubon Ohio has designated this park as an Important Bird Area.The Buckeye Trail, marked with light blue blazes on trees, runs through Girdled Road Reservation. This statewide trail travels through public and private properties as well as along back roads. Here it enters at the parking lot on Girdled Road and exits onto Rt. 608 at the Big Creek bridge.

PARK HISTORY: Girdled Road Reservation was purchased by Lake Metroparks in 1965. It is named for the first road that the early European settlers built from the Pennsylvania line to the new city of Cleveland in the early 1800s. A small path was cut first. Settlers knew that a larger road was needed, so they “girdled” the trees along the path. (Girdling a tree means cutting through the bark around the entire tree. This cuts off the flow of nutrients so the tree dies. Once a tree dies, it is much easier to remove it and thus widen the road). Today the remaining section of Girdled Road is the northern boundary of this park.#foxtrotadventures
