Oasis Skatepark in Mission Valley. The four-acre park was underneath the Interstate 805/8 underpass. The sign said RULES SKATE SAFE! A helmet, shoes, knee & elbow pads, and gloves must be worn at all times. Pro skateboarder Russ Gosnell told reporter Doug McAllister the park was not just for experts and they “did a really good job of trying to please the pros and the general public out here.” He said a lot of parks were built specifically for the pros—they were way too tall and dangerous for the general public. The fun didn't last long. The playground under the freeway closed in late 1981.

We visited San Diego's Oasis skatepark in '79 and '80. It was soooo hot. I remember buying my first DEVO t shirt from a local skater. Any one knows who that little ripper on his big Dogtown board is??
