While new skateparks seem to be popping up like mushrooms in smaller towns over the last few years, many larger cities have been falling a bit behind. Although Münster isn’t a big city, it’s always played an important role in the skate scene of our region. Until now, we’ve been skating the 30-year-old bowl in Berg Fidel and the approximately 20-year-old park in Gievenbeck. So, the city had little to offer when it came to state-of-the-art concrete parks. Fortunately, that’s now changed thanks to the new skatepark in Münster-Hiltrup! Since mid-June, the park has been open in Münster’s southernmost district, offering around 500 sq. meters of space, a relaxed layout, and a place to meet familiar faces from the entire region almost every day. Während seit einigen Jahren neue Skateparks in den kleinsten Dörfern wie Pilze aus dem Boden zu schießen scheinen, beschleicht einen in etwas größeren Städten manchmal das Gefühl, dass dort in dieser Hinsicht weitaus weniger passiert. Zwar ist Münster keine Großstadt, hat aber in seiner Bedeutung für die Skateszene stets eine überregionale Rolle gespielt. Mit dem seit 30 Jahren bestehenden Pool am Berg Fidel und dem etwa 20 Jahre alten Park in Gievenbeck bot die Westfalenmetropole in den letzten Jahren wenig „latest state of art“ Beton, was sich seit der Fertigstellung des Parks in Münster-Hiltrup glücklicherweise geändert hat. Seit Mitte Juni kann im südlichsten Stadtteil Münsters auf ca. 500 qm Ortbeton entspannt gerollt werden und man trifft dort mittlerweile fast täglich bekannte Gesichter aus der gesamten Region. From the past, circa maybe 2010 or 2011. I did a little thing for the Region Rambler website (www.regionrambler.com) that featured an edited down version. Going through my surviving archives I gave it a reedit and put in different Helvetia tracks.
