“We skate and ride on the sidewalk and busy route 38, Groton Main Street, with hundreds of tractor trailers, because there is nowhere else to go. We are constantly being told by the police we will be arrested for trespassing. We do not feel safe.” – Steve Zimmer, freshman, Groton Central School.
“In 2001, after a strong youth-generated roots movement, the Village of Groton agreed to contribute the land needed for the skatepark. We are in the early stages and expect that a finished park will fulfill our goals…. Working with the Groton youth has been a positive experience. The youth are building their leadership skills and feel a sense of ownership in the professional project.” – Debbie Finton-Crouch, Board Member, Village of Groton.
