A quick look at the Berkeley Skatepark. This is a look at the park itself and some info, plus a tiny bit of skating.

I really can't do much myself, and I'm fine with that I have the best time just being able to skate in a real Park. Made this video because I had no video of the park or myself skating on my good camera. There were a couple other guys at the park who mentioned they had no film of themselves either so they're on here too.
Matt at 2:44 and I'm not sure the other guy's name but he pulls the nice grind around the corner. The rest were people who just happened to be there. That one big older guy said he is 60, and I saw him skating, he's probably better than me! Never too old!
I really should have figured out how to grind by now- if you don't skate it might seem like i am pretty good, but not really. I have enough skill to enjoy the heck out of it but I've never been much of an athlete and well/ concrete is scary when you depend on your bones for your income// I'm a little over cautious. . Eventually I'll hit some real grinds, the last couple years I had been doing so many other things and my schedule changed so I have barely skated, but it's time to get back on it. Always a good time at the Park. It can be a zoo if there are too many tiny kids who don't watch out, but when there is a crowd of real skaters there it is pretty amazing how we all avoid getting in each other's way. People are generally encouraging and all around cool at these parks, I've gotten a lot of great tips from other skaters and made tons of friends here. Amazing is to see a young kid show up who can't skate and then 2 months later he's ripping grinds and dropping in on the deep end. A good park will help everyone develop their skills. It ends up entertaining so many people between skaters, parents, and fans that many Cities all over have found these parks to be well worth the investment.
This Park opened around 2003 after many delays, and was one of the first full size parks in Northern California since the 80s.
You might notice some white strips of concrete throughout the park, that is where many transitions were repaired because the joints cracked, the City did a major repair a few years back.
Some cities have built far larger parks so Berkeley's is not quite as prestigious as it once was, but is still considered to be one of the better skateparks. When i started going to the park in 2006 there were very few good skateboarding videos online, and not many good concrete parks in the US at all so i uploaded quite a few clips to show people what it was like. I was using a primarily photo camera, and soon many of the kids at the park starting bringing in good video cameras and making real films, so i stopped bringing my camera. Now some of the biggest skate channels on youtube are shooting here and around the Bay Area regularly with pro-quality video equipment so there is really no real need for me to make more and to be honest it can be a real pain waiting around for people to pull off video worthy runs but every once in awhile I may film if the scene is hot now that i have a proper video camera.
