Jake is very detail oriented and patient when it comes to teaching. As a self-employed guitar instructor, he understands the importance of technique because it is the foundation of everything that will be learned in the future. This is especially important when it comes to skateboarding because of its physical requirements. Anyone could teach someone else how to kickflip for example, but what is more important is learning how to do it safely. Through years of skateboarding and videography (filming skateboarding), he has both seen and experienced the repercussions of failing to learn the correct way. Just like anything else in life, skateboarding takes a lot of practice, which is something that can’t be given to a student by their instructor. All a teacher can do is provide his/her student with the best and safest method of going through the necessary motions to learn. Jake’s philosophy, in teaching both skateboarding and music, is to guide his students as they progress, because muscle memory is the key component in learning almost any skill.
