I always give the local kids pointers when I see them struggling with a trick but I have officially taught a lesson. The most advanced tricks I can teach are most flip tricks whether switch nollie or fakie. I can teach most major tricks on ledges or rails as well.

Mike has taught beginner/intermediate skating for inner-city/neighborhood youth at the DIY park we built in his neighborhood in Boston as part of SkateJamPlain, a non-profit org he was trying to start along with some other local skaters in the Jamaica Plain neighborhood of Boston. This later became “Extension” a non-profit program of which he was a board member of) in conjunction with Orchard Skateshop. Both programs involve skate camps/lessons community relations getting boards in to the hands of inner city youth and working to build skate spots/dots around the city. While he is not the greatest skater anymore (at 40), he still know HOW to do the tricks and many of the people I have skated with from beginners to pros heed his advice and instruction when trying to land a certain trick. For Search and Destroy a New England version of Thrasher’s King of the Road, he was team “skate coach” 5 years running. He also have worked as a case manager for over 7 years working primarily with at-risk youth in both Boston (at Youth on Fire) and now in Portland (at Outside In).

HE TOO CAN BE YOUR COACH OR INSTRUCTOR!

Thomas has given lessons for a family friend and helped their little boy get the hang of riding a board and getting comfortable on it. He would explain a trick thoroughly and breakdown the instructions into simple steps in a way that clients and himself would understand.

Some of his favorite tricks that are quite advanced is krooked grinds feeble grinds heelflip5-0 & 50-50 lazer flips 360 kickflips nollie bigspin heelflip backside bigspin kickflip nollie inward heel and many other tricks

HE IS EXCITED TO WORK WITH YOU AND SHOW YOU STUFF YOU CAN LEARN!

I have given formal lessons before but i have taught many younger kids in my neighborhood and at Camp Woodward how to do things from learning to balance and ride to kick-flipping stair sets. A lot of it is being able to encourage the person to push themselves just a little bit farther than they think their capable of. As far as flat ground goes I could things up to about as complicated as a 360 flip or a back side flip. I could also teach many of the basics on a mini ramp or tranny up to about a blunt stall. And the grinds I could teach would go up to about front and back smith grinds and lip slides.

As a kid I taught all the younger kids to skate . I’ve seen a kid grow up to do tricks I’ve been able to land . But I can teach any flat ground flip trick such as ollies kickflops heel flip hard flops 360 big flips big spins . I get them comfortable on flat ground first then I focus on verticals such as getting up and off ledges curbs loading docks etc . Getting you comfortable to incorporate all the flat ground tricks off heights .. And your a chicken to bail out .. Just try to stick it !!! Also the culture of a skater is most important . It’s like a soldier with a rifle . I will teach that it’s s lifestyle . It takes scrapes and falls to be a master ask Bruce lee !! I’m a good mentor to the youth .
