Welaka is a town situated on the St. Johns River in Putnam County, Florida. The population was 586 as of the 2000 census. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2004 estimates, the town had a population of 604. The town is part of the Palatka Micropolitan Statistical Area.
It is not known when the area was first settled, but the nearby Mount Royal archaeological site is a possible remnant of a Timucua Indian village from ca. 1250 to 1500 AD, and may have a connection to the town of Enacape, an important center of the Utina tribe.
The settlement was originally a 500-acre tract purchased by James William Bryant in 1852 and was known as Mt. Tucker. Prior to the war, there were large orange groves and cotton plantations. In 1860, Welaka’s population was slightly over 100. At the end of the Civil War, fewer than 20 remained. The town grew again and was incorporated on June 21, 1887 and Welaka was affirmed as the town’s name; the name Welaka is said to have been derived from the word local…

A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data uncovered there are 18.5 million skate boarders in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled had used a board in the last year were under the age of 18, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have have doubled since the time of the study. In the coming years the locations of skate parks tripled making it more accessible as publicly and privately owned parks and indoor parks are becoming a reality.

The most significant change has been the generation bubble that skated in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the worldwide mainstream of competitive sports and sees it as a participation sport for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

Learn all of the basics of skateboarding fast in a one-week camp. We will show you the basics of skateboarding such as how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. Irrespective, of where you are at.. you can benefit from personalized instruction to meet your current skill level.

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Welaka skate park.
