Waban (ca. 1604–ca. 1685) was a Native American of the Nipmuc group and was the first Native American to be converted to Christianity in Massachusetts.
Waban was born about 1604 at Musketaquid, near the present town of Concord. His conversion to Christianity came on October 28, 1646 (Julian calendar), when the missionary Reverend John Eliot preached his first sermon to Native Americans in their own language in Waban’s large wigwam in Nonantum, Massachusetts, and Waban and many of his tribe were converted.
Waban maintained close and friendly relations with the white settlers of Massachusetts and, in April 1675, reported to an English magistrate that trouble was brewing amongst the Wampanoags. Within two months, Waban’s predictions came to pass when a Wampanoag named Metacomet, known as “King Philip,” led his nation in the initially successful King Philip’s War. Skateboarding is a pastime activity, an art form, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been designed and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the ages. A 2002 report by American Sports Data discovered there are 18.5 million skaters in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled who had used a skateboard in the previous year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have have doubled since the time of the study. In the coming years the skate parks tripled making skateboarding more accessible as publicly and privately owned parks and indoor parks are becoming a reality.

The largest change has been the generation bubble that skated in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the world wide mainstream of competitive sports and sees it as a participation sport for their children as led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Waban skate park.
