Stickney is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States. The population was 6,148 at the 2000 census. It was well known in the 1920s and early 1930s as the home for several bordellos linked to mobster Al Capone’s empire.
The largest wastewater treatment plant in the world, the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant (Stickney WRP), is located within the village. This facility is operated by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago.
Stickney is located at 41°49′1″N 87°47′12″W / 41.81694°N 87.78667°W / 41.81694; -87.78667 (41.816982, -87.786755).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.2 km), of which, 1.9 square miles (4.9 km) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km) of it (1.53%) is water.
