Port Wing is an unincorporated census-designated place in the Town of Port Wing, Bayfield County, Wisconsin, United States. It is located on Wisconsin Highway 13, 30 miles west of Bayfield. The Flagg River enters Lake Superior at Port Wing’s harbor. The population of Port Wing consists of retirees, summer cabin dwellers, residents with a family history in the area and a recent influx of new business and full time residents. The towns’ economic activity consists of Everett Fisheries, a commercial fisherman out of Port Wing harbor, and several small businesses who employ workers and the South Shore School District. As of the 2010 census, its population is 164. Port Wing has an area of 1.150 square miles (2.98 km), all of it land.
The town’s facilities include the South Shore High School, a U. S. post office, a public beach and marina and a volunteer fire department, as well as a historical society museum with documents and photographs related to Port Wing’s history. There are also three…
