High Shoals is a town in Gaston County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 729 at the 2000 census.
High Shoals was the location of the High Shoals Iron Works, founded by Swiss-born John Fulenwider in about 1795. Fulenwider developed one of the earliest methods of making pig iron with the charcoal process. During the War of 1812, his High Shoals ironworks produced cannon balls for use by the United States Army. Fulenwider died in 1826 and is buried at High Shoals cemetery. The ironworks he developed remained in operation until 1875.
In the last decade of the 19th Century, the community of High Shoals became totally-owned by High Shoals Mills, a textile company founded by Charlotte, North Carolina industrialist Daniel A. Tompkins.
Eventually, the mill homes were sold to private owners. High Shoals was incorporated on November 6, 1973, the most-recently incorporated municipality in Gaston County.

Skateboarding is a leisure activity, an art form, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been molded and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2002 report by American Sports Data discovered that there are 18.5 million skateboarders in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled had used a board in the last year were under the age of 18, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have doubled since then. In the following years the skate parks tripled making skateboarding more accessible as publicly and privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are coming into the picture.

The biggest change has been the generation that skated in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the global mainstream of competitive sports and now sees it as a natural participation sport for their children as led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

Learn all of the basics of skateboarding quickly in a one-week camp. We will teach you the basics of skateboarding like how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. Irrespective, of where you are at.. you can benefit from customized instruction to meet your skill level.

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the High Shoals skate park.
