According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.3 square miles (3.4 km), of which, 1.3 square miles (3.4 km) of it is land and 0.79% is water.
Doerun is the home of the 3,500-acre (14 km) Davis Farms which is owned and operated by Bart Davis and his sons Trey & Jedd Davis. Davis Farms produces cotton, peanuts, corn and Angus cattle.Also Doerun is the home to Oliver Farms which is owned and operated by Mark Oliver.
As of the census of 2000, there were 828 people, 343 households, and 221 families residing in the city. The population density was 658.3 people per square mile (253.7/km²).
