Cartwright is a community located on the eastern side of the entrance to Sandwich Bay, along the southern coast of Labrador in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. It was incorporated in 1956.
Cartwright has been a settled community since 1775 when Captain George Cartwright, for whom the place is named, settled there, establishing a fish and fur trading business. Eleven years later he left Labrador, maintaining a business interest there until it was sold to Hunt and Henley in 1815. It was again sold in 1873 to the Hudson’s Bay Company and has remained under company ownership ever since.
Since 2002, Cartwright has been connected by road (a section of the Trans-Labrador Highway) with Blanc Sablon, Quebec where there is a car ferry to Newfoundland. Since December 2009 the remaining link between Cartwright and Goose Bay, Labrador has been completed and open to the public.

Discover Skateboarding in a Two Week-Long Class

Skateboarding is a recreational activity, a work of art, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been designed and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the ages. A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data found that there were 18.5 million skateboarders in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled had used a board in the previous year were under the age of 18, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have doubled since then. In the coming years the skate parks tripled making skateboarding more accessible as privately owned parks and indoor parks are coming into the picture.

The largest change has been the generation that skated in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the global mainstream of competitive sports and now sees it as a participation sport or art for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

Do you want to learn how to skateboard?

Be taught all of the basics of skateboarding fast in a one-week camp. We will teach you the basics of skateboarding such as how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. No matter, of where you are at.. you can benefit from customized instruction to meet your current skill level.

How to Start:

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Cartwright skate park.
