Algona is a city in and the county seat of Kossuth County, Iowa, United States. The population was 5,741 at the 2000 census. Ambrose A. Call State Park is located two miles southwest of the city.
Algona was founded in 1854 by two brothers, Ambrose and Asa Call, who named the city after the native word for “Algonquin waters”.
Between 1869 and 1875 the community was the location of Algona College, an institution sponsored by the Methodist Church.
In 1894, Algona, along with other Iowa communities such as Dysart and Wesley, became part of the project known as the “Orphan Trains”. As New York City saw booming immigration, it also inevitably saw a rise in the number of orphans in its asylums. Unable to provide adequate care for them, it saw fit to ship nearly 100,000 westward to start a new life with families across America. Algona itself welcomed nearly 100 orphans into the town, many of whom remained lifelong residents.

Do you want to learn how to skateboard?

Is the fear of falling keeping you from progressing? Be taught all of the basics of skateboarding fast in a one-week camp. We will show you the basics of skateboarding such as how to balance, push, turn, proper foot placement, and how to stop. Regardless, of where you are at.. you can benefit from individualized instruction to meet your current skill level.

Skateboarding is a pastime activity, an art form, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been designed and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data discovered that there were 18.5 million skaters in the world. 85 percent of skateboarders polled had used a board in the most recent year were under the age of 18, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have doubled since then. In the ensuing years the skate parks have more than tripled making it more accessible as privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are coming into the picture.

The largest change has been the developed generation bubble that skated in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the global mainstream of competitive sports and sees it as a participation sport for their children as led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.
