A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data uncovered that there are 18.5 million skaters in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled who had used a board in the last year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have doubled since then. In the ensuing years the skate parks have more than tripled making it more accessible as privately owned parks and indoor parks are coming into the picture.
