Tia P. from Burr Ridge, Illinois!

I’m a professional adaptive skateboarder with 23 first-place wins in the women’s division including back-to-back wins at Dew Tour! I grew up in the suburbs of Illinois and now travel between Chicago, IL, and Dubuque, IA. I’ve taught girls skateboarding before from my wheelchair and have even taught people who thought they’d never skate. I started out skating regularly for 10 years before getting nerve damage in one leg so now I skate with crutches. However, I’m still very knowledgeable in the sport and promise we will have a blast!

IMPROVE YOUR SKATEBOARDING IN A WEEK-LONG COURSE

Skateboarding is a pastime activity, an art form, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been designed and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data found there were 18.5 million skate boarders in the world. 85 percent of skateboarders polled had used a board in the most recent year were under the age of eighteen, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have since doubled. In the following years the locations of skate parks tripled making skateboarding more accessible as privately owned parks and indoor parks are coming into the picture.

The biggest change has been the developed generation that skateboarded in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the global mainstream of competitive sports and now sees it as a natural participation activity for their children as led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.
