Chemung is a town in Chemung County, New York, USA. The population was 2,665 at the 2000 census. The town name is derived from the river flowing through it, which means in the native dialect, “Big Horn.”
The Town of Chemung is in the southeast corner of the county and is southeast of Elmira, New York. It is part of the Elmira, New York Metropolitan Statistical Area.
The region was visited by the Sullivan Expedition of 1779, which fought at the Battle of Newtown, just west of the current Town of Chemung.
The first clear record of settlement dates to about 1786.
The Town of Chemung was the original town in Chemung County and was incorporated into the county in 1798 at the time the county was formed. The town had been established in 1788 in Montgomery County, New York. Chemung lost territory when Tioga County, New York was formed in 1791. A 2002 report by American Sports Data uncovered there were 18.5 million skaters in the world. 85 percent of skateboarders polled had used a board in the last year were under the age of 18, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have have doubled since the time of the study. In the coming years the skate parks tripled making skateboarding more accessible as publicly and privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are coming into the picture.

The largest change has been the generation that skateboarded in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the worldwide mainstream of competitive sports and now sees it as a participation sport or art for their children led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

How you can start skateboard lessons?

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Chemung skate park.
