Skateboarding is a pastime activity, an art form, or a method of transportation. Skateboarding has been molded and influenced by many skateboarders throughout the years. A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data discovered there are 18.5 million skaters in the world. 85 percent of skateboarders polled who had used a skateboard in the previous year were under the age of 18, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have since doubled. In the coming years the physical locations of skate parks have more than tripled making it more accessible as publicly and privately owned parks and indoor parks are coming into the picture.
