A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data uncovered there were 18.5 million skate boarders in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled who had used a board in the last year were under the age of 18, and 74 percent were male. Those numbers have doubled since then. In the coming years the actual locations of skate parks have more than tripled making skateboarding more accessible as publicly and privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are coming into the picture.
