Akiak (ACK-ee-ack) (Akiaq in Central Yup’ik) is a city in Bethel Census Area, Alaska, United States. The population was 309 at the 2000 census.
Akiak is a dog who ran the Iditarod race.In the story he injured his foot,he was also lost they tried to find him but,they just gave him food.So one day he came back to the race and her musher,Mick whom sended her to checkpoint but the courageous dog had won the race by himself.
In 1880, the village of “Ackiagmute” had a population of 175. The name Akiak means “the other side”, since this place was a crossing to the Yukon River basin during the winter for area Eskimos. The Akiak post office was established in 1916. A U.S. Public Health Service hospital was built in the 1920s. The city was incorporated in 1970.
A federally-recognized tribe is located in the community—the Akiak Native Community. Akiak is a Yup’ik Eskimo village with a reliance on subsistence and fishing activities. The sale or importation of alcohol is banned in the village.

A 2002 survey and study by American Sports Data uncovered that there were 18.5 million skaters in the world. 85 percent of skaters polled had used a skateboard in the last year were under the age of 18, and 74 % were male. Those numbers have have doubled since the time of the study. In the coming years the locations of skate parks tripled making it more accessible as privately owned skate parks and indoor skate parks are becoming a reality.

The largest change has been the developed generation that skated in their youth and have grown up with the “X” Games explosion into the worldwide mainstream of competitive sports and now sees it as a natural participation sport for their children as led by X-Games Athletes who are affiliated and instruct for our brand and web site.

  • Equipment: We recommend a board and a full set of safety gear. This includes: a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, and wrist guards. Rental equipment is available.
  • Location: We can do lessons in your driveway, in your garage, or at the Akiak skate park.
