Northeast Park, 100 Crestview Dr, Greenwood, IN 46143, USA
Situated in Northeast Park near the intersection of 1-65 and the Greenwood Airport, the newly constructed skateparkstands as a testament to collaborative community efforts and a commitment to providing an exceptional skating experience. Replacing the old prefab park, this custom concrete creation spanning 8,500 square feet is the result of a joint initiative between the Greenwood Parks Department and local riders who advocated for a tailored design. The park's location at Northeast Park offers skaters convenient access within Greenwood's vibrant recreational landscape.
Designed with careful consideration for user diversity and flow, the skatepark boasts an array of features that cater to a variety of skating styles and preferences. The entrance area welcomes skaters with a flat lands section featuring boxes, a flat bar, rainbow rail, curbs, pole jam, and a china bank/ledge combo, providing ample opportunities for creative expression. The middle section of the park features a multi-leveled street scape highlighted by classic hubbas/down rail combos, steps, down rails, and two-level out rails, offering challenging obstacles for riders to conquer. Meanwhile, the transition area boasts a 4' mini ramp with a round pocket escalating to 7', multiple hips, a 2-level whale tail spine, and pump bumps that double as fly boxes for bikers, ensuring an exhilarating skating experience for all.
Inspired by the rich legacy of skateboarders and local skate shops, the skatepark's decorative elements pay homage to Greenwood's skateboarding heritage. The design incorporates generational imagery from the N-Orbit and Greenwood Skatepark Posse crews, culminating in the creation of the 'Greenwood Flag' image etched into the flat rail. Steelwork featuring X's adds texture to the park's aesthetic, while a replica of the 1980s N-Orbit skatepark jersey pays homage to past generations of skateboarders. Additionally, the park's name, Greenwood, reflects a love for the color green and Indiana's lush woods, with color pops of green and a snake skin tile band stained green adding visual interest to the park's design.
Open daily from 8 am to 10 pm, the skatepark offers extended hours to accommodate skaters' schedules and ensure ample time for enjoying its facilities. This accessibility underscores the park's commitment to providing a welcoming and inclusive space for skaters of all ages and skill levels to engage in their passion for skating within a supportive community environment.
